Am I expected to attend Recognition and Graduation?  Am I expected to wear regalia? How do I order the regalia?

The Dean requires all faculty (9, 10 and 12-month contract) to attend Recognition and Commencement ceremonies.  Not only does it show support for students and guests at these events, but faculty contracts pay them through that date.

Wearing regalia to both events is expected, and some faculty own their own.  For those who do not, an order form sent by email attachment is sent from the Director of Admissions & Student Services in January preceding May Commencement activities to expedite the ordering process.

To order textbooks, simply complete the UAMS Textbook Authorization form located on the CON Intranet (http://nursing.uams.edu/inhouse/index.htm) or in the copy room (5/103).  All information on this form is very important and should be filled out completely.  For the Spring semester these forms are due Sharon Toombs October 1st; for Summer March 1st and for Fall, May 1st.  This form can be forwarded via e-mail attachment to Sharon Toombs or placed in Sharon Toombs’ mailbox. Sharon Toombs will provide this information to the UAMS Bookstore and order any needed desk copies.  The desk copy is the property of UAMS College of Nursing.

What are e-mail distribution lists? Which should I be on & how do I get on them?

The CON has many different distribution lists that allow you to send and receive e-mails to specific groups within the college. Everyone (faculty, staff, research assistants) is listed on the “CONEveryone” list. Faculty members only are listed on the “CONFaculty” list. Additionally, there are groups for committees, student groups, and staff groups.

You can see them all by clicking on the address book in Outlook and typing in CON. To be placed in a specific group, call Crystal Hunnicutt at 603-1161 or e-mail HunnicuttCrystalN@uams.edu.

How can the CON homepage & intranet help me?

The CON homepage (http://www.nursing.uams.edu/) is the Table of Contents for the College of Nursing.  From the homepage you can access vital information about our BSN, MNSc, & PhD nursing programs, faculty and staff profiles, and other general information.  This page is divided into several sections:  General Information; Applicants (for prospective students); Programs; Students; Faculty/Staff, and Announcements (current events).  The website is updated regularly and is just one way to stay current on CON information.

The CON intranet link (http://www.nursing.uams.edu/inhouse/index.htm) is located on the homepage under section “Faculty/Staff”.  The intranet provides internal information for faculty and staff use.  Most forms that we use are on the intranet along with calendars, schedules, listings, faculty handbook, and grant information.

What is the CON Annual Report what do I need to know about it?

The Annual Report is composed at the end of each year by the Dean of the College of Nursing.  It is a comprehensive summary covering all activities of the college including each department and mission.  At the conclusion of the report, the Dean addresses the CON goals for the coming year.  It is one of the best resources to review to obtain a more in-depth understanding of the workings of the college.

How, when, & by whom will my didactic & clinical teaching be evaluated? Are there performance criteria in a tool?

Faculty are evaluated annually in January by the appropriate Associate Dean or Program Coordinator.  Individual annual reports should be completed in the Fall semester and submitted to the appropriate evaluator prior to Christmas break.  Evaluations are based on goals, which are written toward the individual’s next rank.  In other words, new Clinical Instructors will write their goals to that rank then the goals for the following year will be written toward the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.  The Associate Dean’s or Coordinator’s evaluation of classroom and clinical teaching performance will be conducted yearly.  Evaluations in the classroom and clinical areas will be conducted at a mutually agreed upon time.  Annual report forms are on the CON Intranet at:

http://nursing.uams.edu/inhouse/Forms/ANRPTNEW.dot

Do I have an annual report, & do I need to focus on all 3 missions?

Each faculty member does an annual self-evaluation near the end of the calendar year & examines accomplishments of their personal goals in all three missions of the CON.  Membership in a particular department (Dept of Education, Department of Science, or Department of Practice) changes the emphasis of an individual’s goals and the product outcomes for each mission.

How do I access Library resources from my office computer or from off-campus?

The UAMS Library Website (http://www.library.uams.edu/ ) contains links to the Library's online resources.

If you are on campus, almost all of the Library databases and electronic resources will immediately recognize your computer as authorized to access our online resources.  Often this is true for computers at Arkansas Children's Hospital as well.

If you are at home or away from any UAMS campus, you may access most of the resources via the Library's proxy.  When you select a resource you may be asked to provide your campus username and password (your domain username and password) that you use when you bring up your computer and when you log-on to email.  Once you have logged-on to the proxy server, you may access most of the Library's resources without having to re-enter your username and password.

What are the duties of the course coordinator?

What is the Scholarship and Research Center and how can it help me as a faculty member?

The Scholarship and Research Center (SRC) supports the College of Nursing faculty's commitment to the scholarship of teaching, practice, and research as major responsibilities of the profession and provides the environment to assist faculty production.  In addition, the SRC facilitates the operation of the belief that research and scholarship provide a natural bridge between practice and education for generating and using nursing knowledge.  The Director of the SRC is responsible for operating the SRC and is accountable to the Dean of the College of Nursing. The activities of the SRC include facilitating the research programs of faculty; facilitating communication regarding grant opportunities, research interests, issues, and scholarly achievements within the College of Nursing; facilitating the faculty's scholarly activities; facilitating competition for intramural and extramural funding for research; and facilitating the evaluation of the educational programs of the College of Nursing.  More details are available in Section IV (Research) of the Faculty Handbook.
